If you have already registered a nickname, there is no need to reregister each time you change your nick. Simply use this command to group your new nickname to the registered nick.
Change your nick to your new nickname.
Type:
/msg nickserv group registerednick yourpassword
You should then receive a message from nickserv saying:
-NickServ- You are now in the group of registerednick.
